From the Screen Actor's Guild Awards, to the Producers and Directors Awards, each area of movie making has their own awards. Fans have their own with the Teen Choice Awards and People's Choice Awards. And many countries similarly have their own film awards shows. The biggest in the world however, are of course two; The Academy Awards, and the Golden Globes. The Academy Awards will be held next on March 2nd, 2014, as the Oscars are presented. The following film, 12 Years a Slave, has been racking up nominations for the Globes. American Hustle, Captain Phillips, and Gravity have also earned many. 12 Years A Slave is based on an incredible true story of one man's fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender) as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) forever alters his life. The following is an important look at the film, with interviews with the cast and crew. 12 Years a Slave is a Fox Searchlight release, produced by Plan B.
